May 1 -A Beautiful Mind (2001, 135min). Winner of 4 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, A Beautiful Mind stars Russell Crowe in an astonishing performance as brilliant mathematician, John Nash, on the brink of international acclaim when he becomes entangled in a mysterious conspiracy. Now only his devoted wife (Academy Award-winner Jennifer Connelly) can help him in this powerful story of courage, passion and triumph.
May 15 -More Than Honey (2013, 95 min). Academy Award-nominated director Markus Imhoof (The Boat Is Full) tackles the vexing issue of why bees, worldwide, are facing extinction. With the tenacity of a man out to solve a great mystery, he investigates this global phenomenon, from California to Switzerland, China and Australia. Exquisite macro-photography of the bees in flight and in their hives reveal a fascinating, complex world in crisis.
May 29 – Maudie (2017, 115 min). Maudie, based on a true story, is an unlikely romance in which the reclusive Everett Lewis (Ethan Hawke) hires a fragile yet determined woman named Maudie (Sally Hawkins) to be his housekeeper. Maud, bright-eyed but hunched with crippled hands, yearns to be independent, to live away from her protective family and she also yearns, passionately, to create art. Unexpectedly, Everett finds himself falling in love. Maudie charts Everett’s efforts to protect himself from being hurt, Maud’s deep and abiding love for this difficult man and her surprising rise to fame as a folk painter.
