Things to do - The Liar’s Bench

There is no greater power on this earth than a story! Come join us for a storytelling event like no other. We have talented storytellers coming to engage and entertain. Please see their biographies below.

Upcoming show to be announced

An evening of Newfoundland Comedy, Songs, Stories & Recitations with Dave Penny, Harry Ingram and Ken Parsons.

Harry Ingram grew up in Arnold’s Cove in a house full of stories, music and laughter. A talented orator, his stories focus on the funny side of everyday life – a perfect combination of sentiment and humour. Harry is a staunch believer in the traditions of storytelling and enjoys sharing the works of great performers such as Leo O’Brien, John Joe English and Baxter Wareham. Whether it’s a talking moose or a Yankee Privateer, Harry knows his way around a great story.

Dave Penny has been performing around St. John’s and beyond for over 20 years. His songs and sense of humour cover wacky topics like a shortage of mustard pickles, a cyclist feuding with a shiny truck and a Chip Wagon business. His most recent recording “All Turned Around” was nominated for both MusicNL and a Canadian Folk Music Awards. He tickles the heart of Newfoundland culture and knows a thing or two about the button accordion. An awesome combination.

Ken Parsons loves Newfoundland Labrador and it shows in his writing. Spending summers growing up in Bonavista Bay he has created “Raisin Arm”, an imaginary Newfoundland community full of “heart warming stories” and “all kinds of foolishness”. The everyday joys and fun of local culture are always “just down the arm”. As an accomplished magician you’re sure to see Ken pull a trick or two out of his sleeve during his stories.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online. This event is 19+.
